Violet Dean Johnson, age 77, of Clanton, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026 at Hatley Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Clanton, Alabama.
She was born in Chilton County on December 31, 1948, the daughter of the late Roy Foshee and the late Flessie Mae Mims Foshee. Dean dedicated more than 25 years of her life serving as a teacher’s aide with the Chilton County Board of Education, most notably at Clanton Intermediate School. She had a special gift for working with children with special needs, and each student she encountered held a treasured place in her heart. Her patience, kindness, and quiet strength left a lasting impact on countless families.
At home, Dean found joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved tending to her beautiful flower beds, creating spaces full of color and care, and she delighted in watching the birds that gathered nearby. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love for her family was steady and unwavering. Her gentle spirit and nurturing nature will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Charles Wayne Johnson; son, Charles Earl Johnson; daughters, Regina (Jenny) Smitherman and Michelle Sherrill; grandchildren, Christopher Earl Johnson, Jacob (Summer) Johnson, Vince Johnson, Blake Johnson, Brayland Johnson, Bradley Sherrill, Cameron Sherrill, and Kristen Waites; along with a host of cherished great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Roy Wayne Johnson; her parents, Roy and Mae Foshee; and her twin brother, Doyle Gene Foshee.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Chilton Memorial Gardens in Clanton, Alabama.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Dean’s life was a reflection of love, service, and quiet faith, and that her legacy will live on in the lives she touched.
