Wanda Carol (Gothard) Higgins

WANDA CAROL (GOTHARD) HIGGINS, age 69, of Verbena, passed away on January 30, 2026, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born in Chilton County on September 3, 1956, the daughter of the late Virnue Dee Gothard and Annie Irene Lucas Gothard.

Wanda was a former dietician at the former Chilton Medical Center in Clanton. She never met a stranger and loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. Wanda was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clanton, where her faith and love for her church family were evident to all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Pete Higgins of Verbena; son, Nathan (Carrie) Higgins of Clanton; daughter, Rachel “RayRay” Higgins of Verbena; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother, Irene Gothard of Jemison; sisters, Charlotte (Wendell) Ray of Jemison and Sandrea Gothard of Jemison; along with a host of other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Virnue Dee Gothard, and her sister, Laura Wright.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home, with Rev. Derrick Adams officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that contributions toward final expenses be made through the funeral home website.
