ALLEN HUGH GOREE, age 65 of Marbury, passed away on March 2, 2019 at his residence after a nine-month battle with glioblastoma. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on January 10, 1954; the son of the late Hugh Leighton Goree and the late Peggy Ann Jernigan Goree.
Allen was a retiree of Alabama Power Company. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was active in the Chilton County Firefighter’s Association. Allen served as chief of the Verbena Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. He loved the Verbena community and all of Chilton County. He will always be remembered for his service and devotion to his community.
He is survived by: Wife, Shannon Goree of Marbury; Daughter, Christina (Evan) Smith of Wetumpka; Step-Son, Christopher Spires of Wetumpka; Grandson, Logan (Payden) Porter of Verbena; Grandson, Michael Lasiter of Wetumpka; Sister, Teresa Sides of Montgomery; Father and Mother-in-Law, Charles and Jane Snow of Wetumpka; Brother and Sister-in-Law, William and Kristi Snow of Wetumpka; along with a host of other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 5-8pm at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.
Funeral services with full firefighter honors will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00am from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton with Rev. Hoyt Chastain officiating.
Burial will follow in the Verbena Community Cemetery in Verbena, AL.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Cagle, Heath Beasley, Sheriff John Shearon, Jimmie Hardee, Michelle Glass, and Warren Garris.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Franks, Shawn Moore, Amanda Moore, Larry Hitson III, and Dexter Hitson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Verbena Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department P.O. Box 267 Verbena, AL 36091.
