CARL GARRETT HELTON, age 78 of Brent, passed away on November 4, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Jefferson County on November 10, 1940; the son of the late Kelly Helton and the late Clara Mae Bridges Helton.
He was a former molder at Stubb’s Foundry in Helena, AL. Carl was known as “The Lawnmower Man” around Brent and all of Bibb County for his love of working on and repairing lawnmowers. He never met a stranger, and loved to fish in his spare time.
He is survived by: Wife of 48 years, Eula Mae Helton of Brent; Son, Wayne (Jamie) Willis of Brookwood; Daughter, Stacy (Steve) Lesley of Brent; Son, Jackie (Eutha) Helton of St. Clair; Daughter, Rita Smith of Jacksonville, FL; Daughter, Carolyn Shelton of Montevallo; 15 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; Brother, Thomas Helton of Wetumpka; Brother, Gene Helton of Wetumpka; Brother, Jerry Helton of St. Clair; Sister, Louise Helton of Wetumpka; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by: Son, Gary Helton; Grandchildren, Jenny Lynn Wright and Christopher Scott Wright; Great Grandchild, Alissa Simmons; Parents, Kelly and Clara Mae Helton; Brothers: William Helton, Robert Helton, David Helton, and Paul Helton; and his Sister, Frances.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 2:00pm from Calvary Baptist Church in Centreville, AL with Rev. Mike Allen officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in the Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, AL.
