JAMES BENNETT KING, age 81 of Clanton, passed away at his residence on January 6, 2021.
He was born in Mississippi on March 9, 1939; the son of the late Alvin King and the late Katie Crenshaw King.
He was a former supervisor for the Birmingham News.
He is survived by: Wife, Mary Clackler King of Clanton; Daughter, Sandra (Ben) Cleary of Rome, Ga.; Daughter, Angela Ward of Clanton; Daughter, Charlene (Mark) Wear of Clanton; Grandson, Ryan (Ashley) Cleary of Rome, Ga.; Grandson, Austin Wear of Clanton; Grandson, Mason (Toni) Ward of Palm Coast, Fl.; Granddaughter, Caitlin (Kerry) Steele of Rome, Ga.; Granddaughter, Katlyn Wear of Clanton; Brother, Travis King of Horn Lake, MS; Brother, C.A. King of Ackerman, MS.; Sister, Bobbie Box of Weir, MS.; and Great Grandchildren, Jackson, Ira Grant, and Max.
He is preceded in death by his parents; C. Alvin and Katie Crenshaw King; and brothers and sisters, Oma Lee Shaw, Verna Mae Love, Annie Lou Parker, Pauline Hanks, Nell Wood and Fred King.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 12:00pm from Zion Ridge Church of God with Rev. Jason Acreman and Rev. Brent Collins officiating.
A private family burial will follow the service at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, flowers cannot be accepted at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family requests everyone to wear a mask and observe social distancing guidelines.
