LUTHER STEVE MCANALLY, age 78 of Clanton, passed away on July 17, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. He was born in Birmingham, AL on February 16, 1943; the son of the late Luther McAnally, Jr. and the late Jimmie Rae Akers McAnally.

Steve was a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tx. He was also a CPA in in Texas. He would go on to become a computer programming consultant. Steve served his country faithfully in the United States Army with over 5 years of active duty, from April 5, 1961 to April 23, 1966. He served two tours in Korea and one tour of duty in Vietnam; having volunteered for one of the two tours in Korea and also the tour in Vietnam. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. He served in Vietnam during the time of transition from the US advisor role to the primary execution of the war by US forces and was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Vietnam Service Medal. Steve went on to serve in the Texas Army National Guard, Alabama Army National Guard, and the Army Reserves for two plus additional years.

Steve was a member of the American Legion Chilton County Post 216. He served as post commander from 2007 to 2008. He served as district commander from 2009 to 2011. He served as post adjutant for the American Legion Shirley-Holloway Post 131 in Columbiana, AL in 2011 after the post was rejuvenated in 2010. He served on many committees with the American Legion, including service on the National Economic Committee, Children and Youth Committee, Disaster Relief Committee, Finance Committee, and the Gifts to Vets Committee. Steve was also a lifelong member of the Disabled Veterans of America Chapter 33 in Clanton, AL and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 668. Steve also served with the Blue Star Foundation as well as being on the Support Committee for the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.

Later in life, Steve enjoyed spending time outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting and being an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by: Wife, Barbara McAnally of Clanton; Son, Paul McAnally, Sr. of Verbena; Son, Michael Terry McAnally of Foley; 5 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Emily Howard of Hoover; and Brother, William D. McAnally of Warrior.

He is preceded in death by: Parents, Luther and Jimmie Rae McAnally; Sister, Edith Shirley Coley; and Sister, Mildred Ray.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 from 5-8pm at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton, AL.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 10:00am from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton with Rev. Jason Green officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at 11:45am in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
